CCP9 Visiting Professor 2025: Mark van Schilfgaarde

CCP9 welcomed Professor Mark van Schilfgaard, Chief Theorist at National Renewable Energy Laboratory, USA, as the 2026 CCP9 Visiting Professor (8-12 September 2025). Mark gave invited talks/seminars at the University of St Andrews, London’s Thomas Young Centre, Loughborough University and the University of Warwick as well as speaking at the CECAM/ALC/CCP9 Spectroscopy Masterclass at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Mark’s talks were entitled: “Response functions of correlated systems within Green’s function theory” and “Ab initio Green’s function theory of Unconventional Superconductivity”.  Mark is one of the leading researchers in the GW method and other theories for describing strong electronic correlation in materials; these developments are implemented in the Questaal software package. The CCP9 Visiting Professor program provides travel funding for distinguished international reseachers to give a week-long lecture tour at UK universities.
